A Most Fabulous Bracelet

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Making this bracelet requires no skill and you can make it in any color palette. It is shiny and sparkly, just gorgeous.

Start with a plain bangle bracelet. Mine is wood, but metal or bone or plastic will work as well.

Squeeze Sparkle 21 to cover a section of the bangle. I used Strawberry Sparkle. Place gems and sequins into the wet Sparkle 21. Mine are in a warm color palette of reds, oranges, golds. Pile them in there, it should look encrusted. Work your way around the bangle, filling it up.

Let it dry at least 2 days before you wear it.

This bangle is inexpensive to make, and fast and easy to assemble. That is good, because everyone will want one!

Summer CHA

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Here I am at the summer CHA show in Chicago. It is hot and steamy here, but I am spending time looking and finding tons of inspiration and playing with my fab friends. So, all is great!

I found some new product in the glitter booth. Interestingly, it is not glitter. But, I love these new gems in the shapes of numbers and letters. My mind is churning with project ideas, stay tuned! Who owns the creative mind that thought these up??

And, sample packs of sequins. I especially love the star shapes!

Sometimes accessories to go with my glitter is just as good as new glitter! You will find these new items at Jo-Ann stores.

The Better to See You With

Thursday, April 8, 2010

Today I saw a pair of glasses with gems all around the frames and I wanted them! But, the price was embarrassing. So, I hopped over to the dollar store and bought this pair of blue cheater glasses. For #1. Ha!

You should do this. You don't even need instructions. Just put some Sparkle 21 around the frames and set Sparkle gems in while wet. Now, mine are better than the expensive ones because they not only have gems, they have glitter! And they only cost $1.

You could make them in every color!

Hoodie Give-Away!

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Seems like it is cold and snowy nearly everyplace on the map this week. You need a sweatshirt! I feel so blessed to be able to sit inside my warm kitchen and watch the snow falling outside. But, very soon, I will be out there on snow removal detail. That requires at least one sweatshirt.

No problem, since I like snow! What is better than a quiet snowfall? So pretty, so white, so clean. Such snowman potential!

This green hoodie with gorgeous gold Sparkle 21 flowers, accented with gold Sparkle gems is an adult size medium. My photo does not do it justice, the glitter is fabulous. I will give it away to a lucky winner tomorrow night. To enter this totally random drawing, leave a comment that describes what you see out your kitchen window today. Do you have snow?

Tomorrow night, don't delay!

Sign of the Times Jeans and T-Shirt

Thursday, January 7, 2010

Ah, the ever popular retro peace sign. Here are a pair of jeans and a t-shirt made with the same colors and design element.
This t-shirt is done with a fun technique. Here is what you need:

  • Sparkle 21: Vintage Sparkle, Leaf Sparkle, Ocean Sparkle
  • White t-shirt
  • Light color chalk pencil
  • Dinner plate
  • Dessert plate
  • Shirt painting board
  • Large flat paintbrush
Try this:

1. Place shirt on board.

2. Using chalk pencil, trace dinner plate on center of shirt, near the top. Trace the dessert plate in the center of that. Freehand the lines inside the peace sign.

3. Using Sparkle 21 as desired, outline inside lines of peace sign. Using the brush, spread glitter into the inner sections.

4. Outline outside of peace sign with thick lines of Sparkle 21. Using brush, spread glitter outward onto shirt.

For the jeans, you need:

Sparkle 21: same as shirt

Jeans

8mm round Sparkle gems: to match

round template (like a cup) and chalk pencil: optional

1. Trace round template if desired, randomly, on jeans. Or just freehand if you are brave.

2. Doodle a circle, making it not perfect. Add the lines inside to create a peace sign. Repeat as many times as desired.

3. Add dots of Sparkle 21. Set gems in while wet.

This is a cute peace sign design. Once you make a few, you will be freehanding them easily. They could go on anything.

Repurpose and Renew

Monday, January 4, 2010

This project is perfect for you if:

  • you like daisies
  • you like glitter
  • you don't have much money to spend
  • have a need for updating some wall art you already own
  • all of the above
These are three inexpensive pieces of wall art. Three colors of Gerbera daisies. They have been hanging around for a while and were screaming for an update. So, I recycled them into the Mod Girl line of cool glittered art. To repurpose some wall art of your own, you need:

  • the wall art
  • Sparkle 21 (I used Very Berry Sparkle, Gold Sparkle, and Copper Sparkle) Just pick colors that are in your wall art, whatever it is
  • Sparkle Gems: 8mm round holographic
  • Craft Glitter (I used black) Pick a color in the background of your art
  • white craft glue
  • flat paintbrush
Try this:
1. Using Sparkle 21, outline the design any way you want to.
2. Add dots of white glue, set the gems into the glue. You can also do this with your Sparkle 21.
3. Let everything dry.
4. Brush one edge of the art canvas with white glue. Sprinkle glitter into glue while wet. Repeat for all sides of canvas. Let dry.
5. Hang and accept compliments.

See? A great project for saving something you are kind of tired of, or maybe even re-gifting something you don't want any more.

Sparkly Ornaments for Kids to Make

Thursday, December 17, 2009

Kids of all ages! I had fun working on these, myself. Even so, they are simple enough for kids to make.

You need:
  • Big & Glitzy Glitter Glue: whatever colors you like
  • blank stencil material (or any kind of clear plastic)
  • dimensional fabric paint: silver metallic (gold would be pretty, too)
  • Sparkle gems: colors and shapes of your choice
  • scissors
  • wire or ornament hangers

  • these patterns...or draw your own...you just need simple line drawings. Print them out and make them any size on your copy machine.

Try this:
1. Lay the patterns under the stencil blank. Using dimensional paint, trace the lines of the patterns on the plastic. Let dry.

2. Fill the shape with Big & Glitzy. The thicker the glitter glue, the more sparkle when dry.

3. Set gems into Big & Glitzy while wet.

4. When Big & Glitzy is dry, cut shapes out.

5. Use a small hole punch or a small nail to make a hole at the top of each ornament. Use a piece of wire or an ornament hanger to hang the ornament on the tree.

Wouldn't it be gorgeous to hang a bunch of snowflakes in the window? Make some silver, some blue and some white. They can stay up until spring.

Sparkle 21 Bling Shirt

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

You will be calling upon your creativity to make this shirt. And that is good, right?? This is an opportunity to add all the bling you want to one fun shirt. You will use Sparkle 21, and feel free to add gems if you want them.

I am going to tell you how I made mine, and you can go from there. Change or add colors and gems and sequins.

You need:

  • Sparkle 21TM: Night, Copper
  • Fashion Sequins: gold/silver/copper
  • Sparkle gems: red hearts
  • Chalk pencil (optional)
  • shirt painting board
  • shirt of your choice

Try this:

1. Draw chains with chalk pencil if desired. Freehand if you want to. Use both colors of glitter to draw chains. A chain can be round, oval or rectangle links. You can also make ball chain by making it all dots close together in a row.

Note: As in the model, chains do not need to be perfectly symmetrical.

2. At the bottoms of the chains, add medallions, pendants, tassels, drawn with glitter. They can be any shape. You see I have a big round one, a heart and a tassel.

3. Add sequins and rhinestones, set into wet glitter. Put them anyplace you want them.

Have fun designing and wearing.

Flip Flops

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

As soon as I finish posting this, I am making myself a pair of these flip flops. Click on this photo to make it a little larger so you can see everything. My friends Imaginina and her boss made these this morning. They also made us a little video so we could see exactly how to do it. Imaginina is not Spielberg, but I am not telling her that!

Take a look:

How easy is that???

As you saw, you can make a pair of these in literally minutes. The longest process is choosing your color palette. Gather your supplies!

You need:
  • a pair of flip flops
  • Sparkle 21 in your color choice
  • handful of gems and sequins in a coordinating color palette
Try this:
1. Squeeze a little Sparkle 21 onto the strap surface.
2. While it is wet, set in some gems and sequins. Put on as many or as few as you like. They can overlap.
3. Continue, covering both straps. Let dry before wearing.

Sparkle 21 is a new glitter product. I have tried it and love it. It is permanent and washable, so it can go on clothing. It sticks to any surface. I have used it on garments, plastic, wood, tin, glass, and paper. There is a lot of glitter in it, it is gorgeous. You can find it at some Jo-Ann Fabrics stores, or get it from Createforless.com. You can see all of the colors there.

Gotta go, I have a naked pair of flip flops waiting for me.
