Flower Power T-Shirt

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

This is the same flower power pattern that I used on the tote. Since Sparkle 21 is washable on fabric, I could not resist putting one on a toddler size t-shirt. Perfect for a baby hippie!

The pattern has a peace sign in the center of the flower. But, I used the tie dye technique instead for this flower center. You, of course could do either. Put the flower power flower on a shirt of any size to share the love.

You need:

  • Pink t-shirt
  • Printed pattern
  • Sparkle 21: Pina Colada Sparkle, Very Berry Sparkle, Blue Suede Sparkle
  • Toothpick
  • Chalk pencil
  • toothpick
Try this:
1. Print out flower power pattern. Use copy machine to make it the right size for the shirt you have selected. Trace the pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on shirt. Rub the back of the paper to transfer the pattern lines to the fabric.

2. Outline the center of the flower with a thick line of Pina Colada. Inside that line, make a thick line of Blue Suede. Inside that, make a smaller circle of Very Berry. These lines should be thick, but not touching each other.
3. Use the toothpick to blend the lines of color together. Comb back and forth between lines, blending.

My good friend Imaginina stopped by and made us a video showing the tie dye technique. Take a look:

4. Fill in the flower petals with Very Berry.
5. Under the flower, print: love. Let dry completely.

Have fun tie dying and...

Let the Christmas Holiday Begin!

Wednesday, December 2, 2009

Adrianna and Allyssa, the Craft Sisters, sat down last week to show me how to make three very easy and very glittery Christmas ornaments. Any of these ornaments can be made in minutes, and can be made in any color palette. Use new ornaments, or recycle old ornaments. Here are some basic instructions. For more tips, watch the video of the Craft Sisters in action. I hope the Craft Sisters give you some fun ideas!

Ornament 1
You need:
  • a wire and mesh ornament
  • Big & Glitzy Glitter Glue, your color choice (theirs is Silver)
  • Sparkle Gems, your color choice (theirs are pink)
  • Fashion Sequin mix, your color choice
Try this:
1. Squeeze Big & Glitzy into ornament section. Use finger or brush to smooth it out evenly.
2. Place gems and sequins into Big & Glitzy while wet.

Ornament 2
You need:
  • blank ornament, your shape and color choice (Allyssa went with bright girlie colors)
  • Big & Glitzy Glitter Glue, your color choice
  • short piece of maribou or tinsel or ribbon to glue around the top
Try this:
1. Draw large dots of Big & Glitzy on the ornament. Let dry.
2. Glue maribou around top of ornament.

Ornament 3
You need:
  • any blank ornament
  • craft glue, your color choice (Adrianna loves gold)
  • white craft glue
  • piece of ribbon to tie a bow (Adrianna went non-traditional with leopard print)
  • flat paintbrush
Try this:
1. Cover the ornament with glue. Sprinkle glitter over glue. Let dry.
2. Tie a bow around the top of the ornament.

Glitter Shirts

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Annabelle and Allie came over today to show me how to use Sparkle 21 to glitter a pretty shirt. They are so creative. Their technique is very easy and allows for a lot of your own creativity. As they say, "Make it you!"

This is the shirt I made following Annabelle and Allie's instructions. Try it yourself, it is quite easy.

You need:
  • a shirt on a shirt board
  • Sparkle 21 in 2 or 3 colors of your choice
  • masking tape
  • waxed paper
  • heart gems (optional)
Try this:
1. Place pieces of tape on the shirt where you will put the design. Press the tape firmly to the shirt.
2. Randomly squeeze Sparkle 21 on the front of the shirt.
3. Place the waxed paper over the glitter. Press and smoosh with fingers, to make the Sparkle 21 blend. Lift waxed paper to ad more Sparkle 21 if desired.
4. Remover waxed paper. Remove masking tape.
5. If desired, add heart shaped gems. Squeeze two small dots of Sparkle 21 onto shirt, place heart gem into glitter whole wet. Tap down into glitter. Let dry before removing from board.

This would be a fun party project for a group of any age. It took only minutes to make a great looking and sparkly shirt!

Thank you Annabelle and Allie!

Flip Flops

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

As soon as I finish posting this, I am making myself a pair of these flip flops. Click on this photo to make it a little larger so you can see everything. My friends Imaginina and her boss made these this morning. They also made us a little video so we could see exactly how to do it. Imaginina is not Spielberg, but I am not telling her that!

Take a look:

How easy is that???

As you saw, you can make a pair of these in literally minutes. The longest process is choosing your color palette. Gather your supplies!

You need:
  • a pair of flip flops
  • Sparkle 21 in your color choice
  • handful of gems and sequins in a coordinating color palette
Try this:
1. Squeeze a little Sparkle 21 onto the strap surface.
2. While it is wet, set in some gems and sequins. Put on as many or as few as you like. They can overlap.
3. Continue, covering both straps. Let dry before wearing.

Sparkle 21 is a new glitter product. I have tried it and love it. It is permanent and washable, so it can go on clothing. It sticks to any surface. I have used it on garments, plastic, wood, tin, glass, and paper. There is a lot of glitter in it, it is gorgeous. You can find it at some Jo-Ann Fabrics stores, or get it from Createforless.com. You can see all of the colors there.

Gotta go, I have a naked pair of flip flops waiting for me.
