Big & Glitzy Link Bracelet

Saturday, October 31, 2009

This bracelet is trendy and fun on three counts:

  • it is super glittery
  • it uses frames as a component
  • it is a really quick and easy project
Not to mention it is cute and can be made in any colors you choose. This bracelet continues my current obsession with Big & Glitzy Glitter Glue. To make this yourself:

You need:
  • several jewelry frames that have two loops (this is a current jewelry trend so you will find many kinds of frames, take your pick!)
  • a scrap of watercolor paper, bristol board or posterboard
  • Big & Glitzy Glitter Glue: Onyx, Garnet (or colors of your choice)
  • 6 8mm round Sparkle gems: hot pink
  • jump rings
  • toggle clasp
  • chain nose pliers
  • pencil
  • scissors
Try this:

1. Select enough frame links to go around your wrist.

2. Trace around the frames on paper and cut out.

3. Cut out a paper backing for each frame you will put in your bracelet.

4. Cover the paper backing with Big & Glitzy. Make it thick.

5. Set the frame on top of the glitter while it is wet. Set the gems into the wet glitter. You can clean off the edges while it is wet or after it dries.

6. Alternate sizes of frames and colors of Big & Glitzy.

7. When all of the frames are dry, hook them together with jump rings. Attach the toggle pieces with jump rings.

8. Finished! You can paint the back of the pieces with silver metallic acrylic paint if desired. Since the pieces are hooked together with jump rings, you can dis-assemble and reassemble any time. You could have some green pieces to replace the black for a spring look. The possibilities are huge!

Falling Leaves Bracelet

Thursday, October 29, 2009

You might not think of glitter glue as a component of adult jewelry. I think I might change your mind with this beautiful falling leaves bracelet made with Big & Glitzy glitter glue. Big & Glitzy is the most amazing, sparkliest glitter glue available. It is the big gun of glitter glue!

Just look at this leaf charm, the look is almost crystally....because Big & Glitzy is so chunky.

I made this bracelet in less than an hour, not including drying time. You can make this fast and easy bracelet too.

You need:
  • 5 gold leaf charms ( I got these at my local Michaels, they are 1 1/4" tall, but there were a lot of different leaf charms I could have used, take your pick)
  • Big & Glitzy Glitter Glue: Peridot, Nugget, Ruby, Coral
  • gold chain link bracelet
  • 5 gold jump rings
  • 20-21 assorted size and shape crystal beads in fall colors (I used some project leftovers I had)
  • gold craft wire
  • round nose pliers
  • chain nose pliers
  • wire cutters
Try this:
1. Lay your charms on covered work surface. Cover the front of each charm with Big & Glitzy. Pile it on! Refer to Mother Nature's work for ideas on how to color them in. Let charms dry.
2. Using two pair of pliers, hook the charms evenly across the bracelet with jump rings. Open the jump ring by twisting it open. String a charm on it, place it through the bracelet link, and twist it closed.
3. Wire wrap beads randomly to fill in the bracelet. If you have never done wire wrapping, google: wire wrapping a loop. There are many good tutorials available. You can also find instructions for wrapping a loop in the back of any jewelry magazine.
4. Humbly accept accolades from friends and family when wearing.

Gold charms, I see these as a blank slate.

Oh yeah. Isn't that better?

My five charms glittered up.

The completed bracelet. You could add more charms or beads if you like. This would also make a very pretty necklace. The great thing about using glitter glue for jewelry is that the glitter does not shed. And with Big & Glitzy, it is just as sparkly as loose glitter.

As they say in Texas, Happy Fall Ya'll!

Glitter Pumpkin Centerpiece

Saturday, October 17, 2009

This swirly pumpkin looks great in the center of my table where a little bit of light from the window catches the glitter and makes it sparkle. I think I will leave it there until after Thanksgiving. It is made from paper, glue and glitter....very easy to make and inexpensive too. You can make it in any size. Mine is about 10 inches tall.

Here is what you need for a 10" pumpkin:
  • bristol board, 300# (I bought a large sheet with a 40% off coupon, so the price was right and I have enough to make at least three pumpkins)
  • Glitter: orange, gold, green
  • white craft glue
  • #2 pencil
  • small flat paintbrush
  • scissors
Try this:
1. Draw a pumpkin pattern with swirls, or print out mine and use the copy machine to make it whatever size you want your pumpkin to be.

2. Transfer your pattern to the bristol board. An easy way to transfer is to draw over the pattern lines with a #2 pencil. Turn the pattern upside down on the bristol board. Hold in place and retrace all the lines on the back side of the pattern. Remember to add a stem to the top of your pumpkin. Trace and cut out two pumpkins. Trace the swirl lines on both sides of your cut out pumpkins.

3. Cut a slit at the center bottom of one pumpkin. Cut a slit at the center top of the other.

4. Using the flat paintbrush, brush glue on the swirls. Sprinkle gold glitter over wet glue. Shake off excess. Let dry before glittering swirls on the other side of the pumpkin. Glitter all four sides.

5. Brush glue to cover the rest of the pumpkin. Sprinkle orange glitter over wet glue. Shake off excess. Glitter all four sides.

6. Glitter the stems green on both sides.

7. Slide the slits together so the pumpkin will stand up. Place it wherever the light will catch the glitter and make it shine.

After Thanksgiving, you can take the pieces apart and lay them flat in a drawer or box until next year.

Wouldn't it be cute to make small glitter pumpkins and use as place card holders?

Sparkle 21 Bird on a Leg Jeans

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

How about these cute birdy jeans? They are sparkly, made with Sparkle 21.

In a way, they remind me of the Woodstock logo. If you live under a rock and don't know about Woodstock, google it.
Meantime, here is how it looked if you attended Woodstock in 1969...... By the way, if you have one of these shirts, I am betting it is worth something more than the good memories now.

Draw a simple bird and a simple leaf, and off you go to add them to the leg of your jeans, or your t-shirt, or whatever.

You need:

Sparkle 21TM: Copper, Night, Strawberry, Blueberry, Leaf

Pair of jeans, or other garment of your choice

Chalk pencil, tracing paper, pencil

your bird and leaf drawings, birds should be 3-4 inches in size

Try this:

1. Trace bird onto tracing paper. Retrace lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down, rub back of paper to transfer lines. Transfer three birds as shown. Transfer leaves in the same way wherever you want them placed.

2. Make a horizontal branch for each bird with copper glitter.

3. Fill in the birds with Strawberry or Blueberry. Make the eyes and legs Night.

4. Add a single leaf on a stem as desired on each branch.

Make more birds or more leaves as you are moved.

Turn on some Hendrix or Joplin or Country Joe and the Fish, as you are designing and painting for some inspiration.

I am really enjoying this retro groove.

Sparkle 21 Bling Shirt

You will be calling upon your creativity to make this shirt. And that is good, right?? This is an opportunity to add all the bling you want to one fun shirt. You will use Sparkle 21, and feel free to add gems if you want them.

I am going to tell you how I made mine, and you can go from there. Change or add colors and gems and sequins.

You need:

  • Sparkle 21TM: Night, Copper
  • Fashion Sequins: gold/silver/copper
  • Sparkle gems: red hearts
  • Chalk pencil (optional)
  • shirt painting board
  • shirt of your choice

Try this:

1. Draw chains with chalk pencil if desired. Freehand if you want to. Use both colors of glitter to draw chains. A chain can be round, oval or rectangle links. You can also make ball chain by making it all dots close together in a row.

Note: As in the model, chains do not need to be perfectly symmetrical.

2. At the bottoms of the chains, add medallions, pendants, tassels, drawn with glitter. They can be any shape. You see I have a big round one, a heart and a tassel.

3. Add sequins and rhinestones, set into wet glitter. Put them anyplace you want them.

Have fun designing and wearing.

Sparkle 21 Peace Tank Top

I have a little faux tie dye action happening here on this peace sign. I did it on a tank top, but I think it would be really great done on a denim jacket. You could add more graffiti to it and make it really far out!

This is a pretty fast wearable project that is made with Sparkle 21. It looks great and washes great. Try it.....

You need:

  • Sparkle 21TM: Mermaid, Pina Colada, Leaf
  • pink cami...or denim jacket...or whatever you want to put it on
  • shirt painting board
  • plate
  • chalk pencil
  • wide flat brush

Try this:

1. Trace a plate with chalk pencil on shirt. Draw inner lines to form a peace sign. You can freehand this, just look at the photo.

2. Starting in the center, make a swirl of Mermaid Sparkle. Add swirls of Pina Colada and Leaf . Draw thick lines of the colors you desire on the inside and outside lines of peace sign.

3. Use the flat brush to spread the glitter to cover the peace sign. Blend the colors a little to make them kind of look like tie dye.

Peace out and Glitter on!

4. Write "peace" next to the peace sign.

Halloween Lanterns

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Imagine these hanging all over the room during your Halloween party. They are inexpensive and quick and easy to make. You could round up the kids and have a lantern making party. A kind of pre-Halloween party, party. These are 6" lanterns. They come in many sizes and colors. You can sometimes find them at the craft store, but I bought mine online at Luna Bazaar for about $2 each.

All you need are lanterns and glitter glue. Draw jack o lantern faces, moons, stars, swirls, whatever feels spooky to you. Hang them all over!

Try different sizes too.

  • gold glitter glue (optional)
  • 1 yard of halloween ribbon
  • a bit of greenery
  • pencil/scissors
Try this:
1. Trace the jack o lantern on the black paper. Cut out, glue to the back of the jack o lantern.
2. Cover the jack o lantern with glue and then orange glitter. Shake off excess glitter. Let dry.
3. Tie on greenery and bow made out of ribbon at top.
4. Optional: add some gold glitter accents in the eyes, nose and mouth.

Sparkle 21 Shoes

Thursday, October 1, 2009

You need these! Make them to match any outfit. You know you feel good in a pair of shoes with glitter and gems, what are you waiting for?

You need:

  • Sparkle 21: Blue Suede Sparkle, Leaf Sparkle, Pina Colada Sparkle (or colors to match your outfit)
  • Sparkle gems: Hearts, Rounds and Ovals
  • Brown suede flats
  • A quarter
  • Tracing paper
  • Chalk pencil or piece of chalk, light color

Try this:

1. Trace quarter on tracing paper with chalk pencil. Turn face down on shoe. Rub lines with fingers, transferring circle to shoe. Move paper and repeat until both shoes are covered in circles.

2. Paint and doodle inside circles, alternating glitter colors. See ideas for doodling in the pic above.

3. Set blue, green and yellow gems randomly as desired

Here is how to set a gem: squeeze a dot of Sparkle 21 about the same size as the gem, onto the shoe. Set the gem on top of it. Gently tap the gem until it sinks down into the glitter and you can see glitter all around the edge of the gem.

4. Fill in between circle with smaller dots of glitter.

Don't you love these?
