Quickie Pumpkin Treat Bag

This cute idea was sent in by faithful blog reader and friend Owen's Grammy. If you don't have your Halloween treats bagged and tagged yet, try this.

Just apply glue and orange glitter to a round button. Let it dry. Then, on your treat bag, punch two holes, thread orange ribbon through and tie in a bow. Glue on your button. Turn the button into a pumpkin by giving it a small raffia stem at the top.

Owen's Grammy made a table full of these!

Beware! I hung this on the door to my office...and it is true for many reasons. It is wise to beware when entering that room! Of course, it is really for halloween, and would be great on your front door. It is so easy to do, I am not sure you really need instructions, but here is what you need:

Halloween Glitter Sample Pack

Wood letters, any size
a long length of ribbon that will hold all of the letters
white craft glue or decoupage medium
a flat paintbrush
glue gun and glue

Try this:

1. Brush a coat of glue over the front of a letter. Sprinkle the glitter on while wet. Do each letter a different color. Let them all dry.

2. Glue them to the length of ribbon, and hang it up.

It could not be easier. What other halloween words might you do?

Spider Web Shirt

OOOh, I love this shirt and its spider webby goodness. Glittery spider webby goodness! This is what you need to make one:

black t-shirt
Sparkle 21 in a web color, I used Lavender
tape

Try this:

1. Place a piece of tape down the center of the shirt.

2. With Sparkle 21, right out of the bottle tip, make a big X on the left side of the tape.

3. Add more spokes. Make them uneven in width and in length.

4. Add curved lines that connect the spokes and make the web.

5. Add more webby lines.

6. Add more spider webs to cover that side of the shirt. Remove tape. Let the shirt dry 48 hours before wearing.

BOO!

Glitter Pumpkin Patch

You know how I love projects that are easy to make, inexpensive, and glittery! This autumn pumpkin patch project fits neatly into all three categories. I made my pumpkins out of scraps of wood that I had lying around from another project gone bust.

Here is what you need:

several chunks of wood that can stand up on their own
Holographic Glitter Sample Pack
White glue or Mod Podge
a 1 1/4" long piece of 1/4" wide dowel rod for each pumpkin (I cut my dowel rod into pieces with a kitchen knife)
green silk leaves (OK, these are not pumpkin leaves, but they were what I had, call it creative license)
a drill with a 1/4" bit
acrylic paint: orange and brown or green for stems
flat paintbrush
hot glue gun and glue

Try this:

1. Paint the wood pieces orange. You probably need a second coat. Let the first coat dry before painting the second. Also paint the stems. Let everything dry.

2. At the center top of each piece, drill a hole down into the wood. It does not have to be deep, 1/4" will do. Glue the stem into the hole. Repeat for each pumpkin.

3. Cover the front of the pumpkin with glue or Mod Podge. Sprinkle the glitter on while it is wet. I did not think I would have enough orange glitter to do 5 pumpkins, so I mixed the packet of orange with the packet of gold. It lightened the color a bit and made it seem even more sparkly. Glitter all of the pumpkins.

4. Use the glue gun to glue one or two leaves to each stem.

If you do not have scraps of wood sitting around, I think you could adapt this to many other objects. How about candles, jars, tin cans, spools, books? Look around the house and see what you have.

Glitter Leaves Shirt

Fall is my favorite time of year. I am fascinated by the color process on the trees in my neighborhood. I picked a two green leaves off my own maple tree today for this project. It is very easy, allows for your own creativity. It is the perfect project to do with children.

You need:

a black shirt
some leaves
Sparkle 21 in a couple fall colors, I used Jungle Sparkle, Strawberry Sparkle, and Copper Sparkle
a flat paintbrush

Try this:

1. Squeeze some Sparkle 21 onto the front of a leaf. Use the brush to spread the liquid glitter to cover the leaf. It should be spread thickly. You can use more than one color on a leaf if you wish.

2. Press the leaf onto the shirt, glitter side down. Push all over the leaf with your fingers, transferring the glitter. Carefully lift the leaf.

3. Print as many leaves as you wish on the shirt. Let the shirt dry.

4. Loosely outline the leaves with Sparkle 21 straight out of the bottle tip. Let it dry at least 2 days before wearing.

Use different size and types of leaves and add in some gold glitter if you love it. Very autumnal!

Natural Centerpiece

Spring and summer have nothing on fall. On my walk this morning, I picked up a few fall decorations.... a few shiny sticks, a giant leaf, and some....whatever these other things are. They are like acorns, but the caps are larger and fuzzy. They intrigued me so I picked up a handful.

I sprayed a gloss finish on the parts and sprinkled holographic glitter over top, quickly before it dried. Gold on the acorns, orange on the sticks, red on the big leaf. I used glitter left over from my Holographic Sample Pack that I used earlier in the week to make leaf canvases.

Then just sat them all on the table with a candle. I have not even lit the candle yet and the room smells so good.

Get outside, see what you can find.

Fall Color In the House

The big maple tree in my backyard stays green till the bitter end. And then it turns brown, dead. No pretty color for my yard. No problem, I will have some in the house then! So can you.

You need:

a leaf from your yard
two 5" x 7" canvas boards
black acrylic paint and a flat brush
a holographic glitter sample pack
white craft glue or decoupage medium
a dry flat brush
white chalk pencil

Try this:

1. Paint the canvas boards black. Let them dry completely.

2. Trace the leaf on the boards. Place it however you want it on each.

3. Brush one leaf shape with glue. Sprinkle glitter over glue while wet. You have several nice fall color choices in the glitter sample pack. Use more than one color per leaf, if you want. Shake off the excess. Let the glue dry. Repeat for the other canvas.

4. Use a dry flat brush to brush away any excess glitter that sticks to the canvas in areas where you don't want any.

You can hang the canvases or prop them up against the wall on a shelf like I did. There is no reason for fall to be depressing with glitter leaves in the house!

Jack O' Lantern Candy Dish

I think I am having a halloween flash-forward. If you plan for things like I do, you are not quite ready to start working on halloween, but it is on your mind......you are thinking about it. This is a great project for a teacher gift, or just a candy dish at home. It is very inexpensive. The glass bowl cost 99 cents. And it took me less than 15 minutes to make.

You need:

glass bud bowl (if you use a bigger bowl, you will need a truckload of orange candy)
black glitter
white craft glue
18" ribbon of your choice
orange candy (I put sugared orange slices in my jack o lantern dish)

Try this:

1. Squeezing glue from the bottle, apply it in shapes of facial features: 2 eyes, nose, mouth.

2. While the glue is wet, sprinkle the glitter over it. Let it dry.

3. Fill it up with orange candies.

4. I also gave mine a ribbon bow. I can't decide if it is a cute addition or it makes Mr. Jack O look like a hippie from 1969. You decide.

Shoe Sparkle

Oh, these shoes look so nice in the sunshine coming in through the window. I think they will sparkle in the lights of an evening out as well.

I bought these shoes at Payless for $18. They are American Eagle brand and cute and trendy as all get out. But, they needed some shine added to the zebra stripes.

I used Sparkle 21 in Crystal Sparkle and 10 mm clear AB sequins. I think smaller sequins would be even nicer, but I used what I had. I used around 300 10mm sequins for size 6 1/2 shoes. You will have to adjust the number for larger or smaller size shoes.

To make these, just squeeze out dots of Sparkle 21 and press sequins into them. Don't be stingy with the Sparkle 21. A good size dot will really make the sequins glittery. Press the sequins flat so they will not catch on anything when you wear the shoes.

Cover the shoes and let them dry overnight. You will be dazzling!

Tea and Embellishment

I bought this teacup at IKEA a couple days ago. I was looking for something to set on my desk to hold my pretties. I always have a small pile of beads and trinkets that sit on my desk. It is sort of like a waiting place, maybe an evaluation place. I look at the beads until I decide the perfect project for them.

So, this coloring book teacup called to me and I knew I could color inside the lines with Sparkle 21.

And so I did. You could do the same. You don't even need the coloring book pattern on the cup and saucer. Just doodle.

Somehow, having the auditioning beads and trinkets in the teacup makes them seem even more interesting.

Wouldn't this be a great centerpiece? Paint three teacups and place them in the center of the table. A little Sparkle 21 will create table happiness!

Do Your Pencils Sparkle?

Start with pencils, any color.

Apply Sparkle 21 in whatever colors you love. Use more than one color if you wish. Let them dry. Be the envy of everyone else.

The Best Notebook!

This notebook makes school so cool! In a few minutes with Sparkle 21 and some add ins, you can have one just like it.

Start with any spiral notebook. By the way, why do they feel it is OK to put the price sticker on the front of the notebook where it leaves glue and paper???

Choose your color of Sparkle 21. I used gold sparkle. Squeeze it out to cover the desired section on the notebook. Sprinkle in some seed beads or bugle beads. I used gold cube shaped seed beads. Sparkle 21 will hold them to the notebook when it is dry. Fill in as much or as little as you like.

In the next section, I used gold sparkle and I placed heart shaped Sparkle gems in a row.

In the third section, I used pink sparkle with pink buttons.

Let everything dry at least two days before packing the notebook into a bookbag.

Choose Sparkle 21 and beads, gems, buttons, or sequins in any colors you love.

I was in the market for some thank you notes. I found some that I liked in the dollar bin at Michaels that I liked.

Pretty, but maybe a little plain, right? My motto: if it doesn't move, glitter it. I did a little outlining in gold glitter glue.

Nobody would accuse this note card of coming out of the dollar bin!

Bead and Glitter Earrings

Amazing what a few seed beads and a little Sparkle 21 can do!

These poor naked earrings, don't you feel sorry for them? Don't worry, you can help them.

You just need a bottle of Sparkle 21 and some seed beads. I used Blue Heaven Sparkle and the gorgeous dark turquoise seed beads in the seed bead sample pack.

Squeeze out some Sparkle 21 to cover the front surface of the earring.

Sprinkle the seed beads on while the glitter is wet. Let them dry. They and you are fabulous.

A Most Fabulous Bracelet

Making this bracelet requires no skill and you can make it in any color palette. It is shiny and sparkly, just gorgeous.

Start with a plain bangle bracelet. Mine is wood, but metal or bone or plastic will work as well.

Squeeze Sparkle 21 to cover a section of the bangle. I used Strawberry Sparkle. Place gems and sequins into the wet Sparkle 21. Mine are in a warm color palette of reds, oranges, golds. Pile them in there, it should look encrusted. Work your way around the bangle, filling it up.

Let it dry at least 2 days before you wear it.

This bangle is inexpensive to make, and fast and easy to assemble. That is good, because everyone will want one!

Retro Button Rings

Bold rings are one of the big jewelry trends of 2010. This ring is made of a printed wood button. Very retro. And so easy to make.

My creative friend NJ Button Girl taught me how to make these beautiful button rings. Isn't she smart?

Try this:

1. String three E beads on a piece of craft wire and string it through the button holes. Twist the wires together on the back and trim the wire short.

2. Hot glue the button onto a flat top ring finding.

3. Make a tape tip on a bottle of white craft glue.

4. Draw on the button where you want the glitter to be. In this case, I just followed the words already printed on the button. Sprinkle glitter over the glue. I used a sample pack of fine glitter, so I had several colors at my disposal.

Love these. You can find everything you need to make these rings at Michaels and at Jo-Ann's stores. It is a fun group project because you will see each person's creativity come out!

Summer CHA

Here I am at the summer CHA show in Chicago. It is hot and steamy here, but I am spending time looking and finding tons of inspiration and playing with my fab friends. So, all is great!

I found some new product in the glitter booth. Interestingly, it is not glitter. But, I love these new gems in the shapes of numbers and letters. My mind is churning with project ideas, stay tuned! Who owns the creative mind that thought these up??

And, sample packs of sequins. I especially love the star shapes!

Sometimes accessories to go with my glitter is just as good as new glitter! You will find these new items at Jo-Ann stores.

Glittery Tank

This shirt took me about 5 minutes to make. It is a basic tank top with some added glitter that will dress up any outfit. You could wear it alone or under a jacket. I used Sparkle 21 Silver and Crystal. All you do is draw lines coming down from the neckline. Add a few dots if you like.

Inspiration came from this picture of a shirt sent to me by my pal The Diplomat. In this photo, the decoration is hanging chain.

We get the same shine from Sparkle 21, but less weight and less cost. it would be nice in other colors too!

Love this beach umbrella. Wish it was life size and I was under it sitting on the beach! Just trace the pattern onto a piece of craft foam, cut out and glitter. Use any colors you want.

Print out this pattern and size it on your copier to fit the frame you have. Cut a long thin strip for the umbrella pole.

Helen's Glitter and Button Flower Pots

Look at these really cute post it note holders that my friend Helen made for us today. Helen works for Blumenthal Lansing and I am visiting her this week in New Jersey. Here is Helen to tell you how to make them:

You need:

Creatology flower die cuts (get these at Michaels and they come in other flower shapes too)
scrapbook paper
ribbon
fine glitter, color of your choice
Mod Podge
flat paintbrush
glue of your choice
acrylic paint: color of your choice
small post it note
pencil
scissors

To make it:

1. Lay the die cut on the paper and trace the pot. Cut it out.

2. Paint flower and stem. Let dry.

3. Use glue or Mod Podge to adhere the paper to the pot.

4. Glue a piece of ribbon to trim the pot.

5. Brush a coat of Mod Podge on the flower head. While it is wet, sprinkle glitter over it. Shake off excess and recycle it.

6. Glue buttons across ribbon trim and wherever you like on the flower. You can layer some buttons or glue them individually.

7. Place the post it note pad where you like it.

You could add a magnet to the back and put it on the fridge, or sit it on your desk, or attach two together to make a card, or glue it to the front of your notebook to keep yourself organized. Be creative, I bet you can think up many good ideas for this cute project!

Birthday Give Away

I am having a terrific birthday today. So many of my friends are sending wishes and virtual presents and links to their artwork. It is very touching and lots of fun.

My friends a Blumenthal Lansing, who make buttons that you have to have the minute you see them, invited me for a visit this week. And they threw me a birthday party this morning, complete with glittery cookies, brownies and a sparkly birthday card.

Not wanting to have all the fun for myself, I am having a give away! I am packing a birthday box of glittery fun. The specific item list will be a surprise. Just like a birthday present. But, you will like it. Just like a birthday present!

Butterflies

Glitter some pre-made butterflies for a fast and easy accent to use as home or party decor. You need:

pre-made butterflies ( I bought these at Michaels in the floral department, they have metal clips on the back)
Glitter glue, chose your colors: I used silver and black magic
heavy aluminum wire (I also got this in the floral department, it is easy to bend, and holds its shape well)

Try this:

1. Cut a yard of wire. Measure from one end the height you want your butterfly to be from the table. Mine was 8". So, I measured 8" from one end and wrapped the wire around my finger.

2. Continue to wind the wire into a spiral.

3. Use glitter glue to accent the butterfly. Follow the design already there, or do your own thing. Add dots or stripes for accents. Let dry. Clip to the top of the wire.

Several of these would make a pretty centerpiece for a party.

Froggie Flip Flops Kid's Craft

Froggies on the playground, the park, the beach, the pool. These froggies are suitable for any summer day. Make some with your kids, they are easy to do. You need:

Glitter glue: Black Magic
Fun foam: green
2 20mm wiggle eyes
6” black chenille stem
1/16” hole punch
printed pattern
scissors
pencil

Try this:

1. Cut out frog pattern. Trace onto green foam, cut out.

2. Glue eyes on top of frog. Outline and add a silly mouth. Let dry.

3. Punch two holes in center of frog face, where the nose would be, about 1/2” apart. Put ends of chenille stem through holes. Wrap to center of flip flop. Twist ends of chenille stem together, making sure ends are tucked under frog.

4. Repeat for other flip flop

Glittery Backpack Tags Kid's Craft

Backpacks are more fun when they aren't carrying school books. For summer, they might be going to camp, to dance class, to the pool or park. Make backpack tags with fun shapes, colors, names, or fun reminders of summertime.

You need:

Fun Foam
Glitter Glue
Busy Kid’s Camp Tropical Silky Cord
Hole punch
Pencil
Scissors

Try this:

1. Cut foam pieces of your choice, glue together.

2. Punch a hole and tie cord hanger in it.

3. Decorate and write words with glitter glue. Let dry.

Make your backpack tags to match summer activities. Everyone else will be so jealous!

Glittery Pinwheels Kid's Craft

Pinwheels are so easy to make. You can use them as a toy, a party decoration, you could even use them as a cake topper. Glitter them in colors and patterns as you like.

You need (for each):

7” square fun foam
glitter glue colors of choice
scissors
pencil with eraser
quilt pin
ruler

Try this:

1. Using glitter glue, draw design on fun foam square as desired. Let dry.

2. Measure and mark center point. Use scissors to cut from each corner into the center, stopping about an inch away from the mark

3. Fold the point of each section to the center mark. Stick the quilt pin through the four corners at the center of the pinwheel, and into the pencil eraser. You could also build it on a drinking straw or a dowel rod.

Fold your pinwheels with the painted side up or the painted side down.

Line your sidewalks with these for the summer holidays. Fun!

Glittery Tie Dye Pendants Kid's Craft

Stock up on glitter glue and fun foam, it is going to be a sparkly summer!

Join me in this cool kid's craft jewelry project. You know you could turn this into a bookmark if you don't want jewelry. But, who wouldn't want jewelry?

You need:

Fun foam: white for both, black for peace sign, purple for flower
Glitter glue: at least 3 colors of your choice
Busy Kid’s Camp Tropical Silky Cord
Toothpick
Hole punch
Printed patterns
pencil
scissors

Try this:

1. Trace circle pattern twice onto white fun foam. Cut out circles. Punch hole in top of each for necklace cord.

2. Draw spiral pattern on each using desired glitter glue colors. Use toothpick to comb back and forth through the glitter glue, blending it. Let dry.

3. Trace peace sign onto black foam. Trace flower onto purple. Cut out.

4. String both pieces together onto 24” of cord. Tie knot in ends of cord.

Make your own sun visor, any color, and decoration, and full of sparkly goodness!

Here is what you need to make one:

Sheet of fun foam
Glitter glue colors of choice
9 inch plate
6 inch plate or bowl
pencil
scissors

Try this:

1. Trace 9” plate onto foam. Place 6” plate about ¾” from edge of larger circle. Trace.

2. Decorate as desired with glitter glue. Let dry.

3. Cut out.

Draw circles, lines, words, whatever you like. Make team or club visors!

Glitter Fridge Magnet Frame Kid's Craft

Crafting is good, but crafting something that can actually be used is great!

To make magnet fridge frames with your kids, you need:

5” x 6” piece of fun foam: pink
6” x 7” piece of fun foam: black
2” x 3” piece of paper
glitter glue: black magic
pencil/ruler
scissors
quarter
self adhesive magnet strips

(Change foam and glitter glue colors as you wish)

Try this:

1. Trace paper rectangle where desired on pink fun foam. Trace quarter as many times as desired on background.

2. Glue pink foam to center of black foam.

3. Fill in circles with black magic glitter glue. Let dry.

4. Place 3” magnet strips on back of frame at top and bottom edges. Adhere 2” x 3” photo in unpainted rectangle.

Fill the fridge with a photo gallery of glittery frames.

Cupcake Hanger Kid's Craft

I am sharing this simple project because it is cute. It is also inexpensive to do with a group, like at a party. You could also make these and use them like postcards...maybe birthday party invitations. We love things with dual purpose, right?

You could also glitter any simple design instead of the cupcake.

You need:

3x5” watercolor paper: 140 lb.
Glitter Glue: hot pink, gold, red
red chenille stem
#2 pencil
hole punch
printed pattern

Try this:

1. 1. Punch holes in top corners.

2. 2. With pencil, scribble over pattern lines on back side of pattern paper.

3. 3. Turn scribble side down on hanger. Trace pattern lines to transfer to paper.

Autograph Book Kid's Craft

Summer camp is on the horizon. Make this with your child before she heads out to campfires, games, crafts canoeing, and making new friends.

You need:

Blue craft foam
Glitter Glue: Orange, Kelly, Pineapple
Busy Kid’s Camp Tropical Silky Cord ( I got this in the kid's craft department at Michaels. There are 4 colors of cord that you will use for all kinds of projects, good to have in your craft stash)
Hole punch
Ruler, pencil, scissors
Drawing paper
Small stick, 5-6” long

Try this:

1. Cut two 4” x 6” pieces of craft foam. Cut drawing paper to same size, as many as you wish.

2. 2. Punch two holes side by side 1” below the top and bottom edges at the left hand side of cover. Punch holes in the same places on the back cover and the pages.

3. Cut a yard of cord, any color. Hold covers and pages together. Hold the stick on the front cover between the sets of punched holes.

4. String one end of cord:

· Up through one bottom hole

· Across stick, down through closest hole

· Up through one top hole

· Across stick, down through closest hole

· Repeat

· Bring both end of cord up through holes to the front, tie in a knot

5. On the left side, draw an Orange tree trunk. Add Kelly branches. In upper right corner, draw a Pineapple sun. Add Orange words: My Summer Camp Friends.

Design the cover to reflect the kind of camp that your child is attending. Or make it a journal. Filled with her thoughts or the autographs of friends, it will be an important memento of the summer.

Water Bottle Jacket Kid's Craft

Why have a boring water bottle when you can have a hooty owl who is hooting Cooooooool!

Fun and easy project for kids! You need:

5" x 7 ½” piece of yellow fun foam
glitter glue: orange, purple
Busy Kid’s Camp Tropical Silky Cord
2 20mm wiggle eyes
hole punch
#2 pencil
printed pattern
scissors
white craft glue

Try this:

. Punch 6 holes opposite each other on ends of fun foam piece.
Scribble over pattern lines on back side of pattern paper with pencil.

Turn scribble side down on foam on the left side of the rectangle. Trace pattern lines to transfer pattern to foam.
Glue wiggles eyes to centers of eyes.
Outline design with glitter glue. Print Coooool! on right side of rectangle. Let dry.

4. Lace the cord through the holes just like you lace up a tennis shoe. Slip it over the bottle, tighten up the lacing and tie a bow at the top.

Kid's Craft: Tie Dye Bracelets

This is a fun and easy project. Have all of your materials ready for a rainy day and it will entertain the kids for hours.

You need:

craft foam
glitter glue, at least three colors
toothpick
Velcro coins, self adhesive
scissors/ruler

Try this:

1. Cut a 1" strip.

2. Apply thick lines of your three colors.

3. Comb back and forth with the toothpick, blending the colors. Let dry.

4. Trim strip to the size needed to go around the wrist and overlap about an inch. Stick the Velcro coins onto the strip so they can hold the bracelet on the wrist.

Any color fun foam and glitter glue can be used. Design your own!

Blog Hop: Bow Bangle

The die is for a bow, was easy to assemble and I know you can think of a zillion ways to use it. Of course, mine is glittered and made into a bracelet.

These are the pieces, they are cut out of cardstock.

I assembled two of the three layers, not wanting my bow to be too big for the bangle.

I glittered the inside of the loops with dark pink glitter and the outside with light pink glitter. Then I stuck a big pink gem in the center and wired it to a bangle. Cute!

May Flowers Kid's Craft

I am calling this a kid's craft because it is very easy, but even big kids might like to do it. This big pink May flower is cute, but I think we need a design for the frame every month. They can be changed at the beginning of every month.

Here is what you need:

a frame ( got this at the dollar store, it is 5" x 7")
a piece of scrapbooking paper the size of the frame
glitter (for this project, I used black, hot pink, and orange)
white adhesive fun foam
white craft glue
flat paintbrush
scissors
chalk pencil, not white
glue dot or some kind of repositional tape

Try this:

1. Take the frame apart. Glue the scrapbooking paper to the frame backing. Brush glue on frame. Sprinkle black glitter on while glue is wet. Let the glue dry, reassemble the frame.

2. Print out the flower pattern. Adjust it to fit your frame. Trace the pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn pencil side down on fun foam. Rub the back of the paper, transferring lines to fun foam. Cut out the flower. Transfer the center to fun foam. Cut it out.

3. Remove paper backing and sprinkle glitter over adhesive: pink flower, orange center. Glue the center to the flower. Let dry.

4. Attach the flower to the center of the frame.

Cute! Change the color of your frame and paper if you like. This would be a cute gift for Grandma.

Yes, it is May. Yes, I am working on Halloween projects. That is just the way it goes in the land of retail. What I worked on today are kid's craft projects for Michaels.

Anyway! I really wanted you to see these way cool confetti shapes. They are made of sequin material and are very sparkly and shiny. This candle has jack-o-lanterns, little spiders, and moons. Aren't they cute? Are you getting some halloween ideas forming in your creative mind?

Mini Journals

I had fun this afternoon covering these journals. I love journaling and there is nothing more enticing to me than a pretty journal that is empty and clean. They just beg me to write or draw inside.

I bought these mini composition books at the dollar store. Four in a package for $1. They are small: about 3" x 4". A quarter a book, how can you beat that?

The first thing I did was find four scrapbook papers in my stash that color coordinated. I covered the composition books with the papers. Just run a line of tape around the book using a tape runner. Trim the edges of the paper. Voile! It just takes a minute to do this step.

Then I made a tape tip on my glue bottle. Have you done this? it is really great if you want to squeeze glue out in a thin line. Which I did.

For this journal, I squeezed glue out to cover the lines already on the paper. Then, I sprinkled crystal glitter to cover the glue lines. Done. Easy.

I did the same here except I did two colors.

This cover has a 3D flower. I cut a flower from the unused paper, glued it to white fun foam, cut it out again...and then glittered it with colors that matched: turquoise in the center, lime around that and crystal around the petal edges. Finally I glued it to the cover. This is my favorite one.

For this one, I spread the glue to cover the front of the journal, and covered it with crystal glitter. I cut out a flower from the unused paper, glued it to white fun foam, cut it out again...and then glued it to the front of the journal.

None of these took more than a few minutes. I know you can think of a million uses for these cuties. Wouldn't they be a cute gift or favor tied up with a ribbon?

Use scraps of paper to keep the cost down.

Sparkle's Good Things Come in Small Packages - Sizzix BlogHop

This rectacngle box is just the right size to put a bracelet or pair of earrings in to give as a gift. Two gifts in one!

To make this cute little box, you need:

the Sizzix Scoreboards rectangle box die
matboard to make the pieces
acrylic paint: I used Folk Art Magenta
Sparkle 21: Limeade Sparkle
flat paintbrush
2 sided tape
lime green rick rack
3 small brads
2 small magnets or a bit of velcro (self adhesive)

Try this:

1. Lay the pieces flat on your work surface, paint both sides. Let dry.

2. Using Sparkle 21, draw some curlicues and add a few dots. Let dry.

3. Put the brads in the three holes in the back to hold the lid to the box.

4. Use double stick tape on the box flaps. Build the box.

5. Stick the magnets or velcro under the point of the lid to keep the lid closed.

6. Tie rick rack in a bow around box.

Pretty Shower Decorations

Photo Display Hanger

Don't I know some cute boys? Here is another way to display a photo that is super fast and easy. You probably have some of these wooden pant hangers in the closet like I did. I found all of the other pieces in my stash, so that made this a free project. Use whatever you have on hand to design your own.

You need:

wooden pant hanger
Big & Glitzy Glitter Glue: 2 colors, I used Garnet and Peacock
acrylic paint, I used a bright lime green color
flat paintbrush

Try this:

1. Paint the front panel of the hanger. You can paint the whole thing, but painting the front works, and is fast. Let the paint dry.

2. Alternating colors, draw squares on the front of the hanger with Big & Glitzy. Put the opposite color dot inside each square. Let dry.

That's it! Now clip whatever you want to display into the hanger. I used a piece of scrapbook paper for a background. I had some letter stickers that I stuck to the paper. And I found a book of quotes that I did not remember I had, so I used a page from it. You could clip several pics on it.

Have fun designing! Then just hang it up.

This project was so fast and easy. Honestly, I think I finished it in 60 seconds! Want one?

Here is what you need:

small clip board (I bought this one at the dollar store. Isn't it pretty?)
Mod Podge
fine crystal glitter
flat paintbrush
your photo

All you have to do is brush a coat of Mod Podge over the clip board and sprinkle the glitter over it. The thicker you can make the Mod Podge, the more glitter will stick.

Let it dry and clip your photo to it.

This would be a great Mother's Day gift for Mom for any Mom or Grandma. Since the clipboards are so inexpensive, they would make a nice wall statement if you make 3-5 and hang them together.

Daisy Pen

Spring! Don't you love it? While I was in the studio yesterday, I was having a raging case of spring fever, and it came out in this project. You might have made a pen similar to this already, it is an idea that has been floating around for awhile. I just added glitter. Of course!

Here is how to do it for yourself.

You need:

a ballpoint pen
a silk flower
white craft glue
wire cutters
small flat brush (optional)
green floral tape
glitter of your choice ( I used big crystal holographic glitter)

Try this:

1. Cut the stem of the silk flower to about an inch. Take the end off the pen and stick the flower stem into the barrel.

2. Add glue inside the barrel and around the stem and barrel. Let the glue dry.

3. Cover the top of a petal with white glue. I use my finger, but you can use a small flat brush. While the glue is wet, sprinkle glitter over it. Shake off extra.

Do as many petals as you wish to be glittered. My flower has two layers, I did them both.

4. When the glue is dry, wrap floral tape around pen. This is for looks only, it makes the pen look like a stem.

Have fun, go crazy! Make pens!

Blog Hop: Tea Cup

This is chapter 2 of the current blog hop in which I am participating. The blog hop is sponsored by Sizzix and put together byEileen Hull, who has also designed the ScoreBoard Die we all used for today's project.

For this second project we all used the Sizzix ScoreBoard Tea Cup Die. A special challenge was added. If we chose to accept the challenge, we were to choose one of these color palettes suggested by Brenda Pinnick. I went with palette #2.

To make the tea cup, here is what you need:

the tea cup die
acrylic paint (I used Folk Art Aqua and Bayberry)
Big & Glitzy Glitter Glue: Peacock, Sapphire, Coral
1/4" double stick tape
medium flat paintbrush
#2 pencil
straight pin
6" of string or yarn

Try this:

1. Fold on the scored lines. Apply the double stick tape on the flaps.

2. Stick the front and back tea cup shape to the center section.

3. Paint the inside of the tea cup Aqua.

4. Paint the outside of the tea cup Bayberry.

5. With pencil, freehand or trace a curlicue pattern across the front of the tea cup.

6. Apply sapphire to the curlicues. Squeeze a big dot of peacock opposite each curlicue. Stick the straight pin in the center of the dot, and draw outward to form a leaf. Add a small dot of coral next to each leaf. Make a heart on the tea bag tag. You can easily do that by squeezing out two dots of coral, right next to each other, and dragging the pin down through the center. Let everything dry until it sparkles.

7. Tie the yarn to the tea bag tag. Tape to the inside of the cup. Assemble parts with double stick tape as shown.

I have a friend who is on overload right now. I think I will give this to her, in hopes she will find some time to sit down and have a cup of tea.

This would be a great teacher gift or party/shower favors. You can change the tea bags for anything that will fit inside.

Today I saw a pair of glasses with gems all around the frames and I wanted them! But, the price was embarrassing. So, I hopped over to the dollar store and bought this pair of blue cheater glasses. For #1. Ha!

You should do this. You don't even need instructions. Just put some Sparkle 21 around the frames and set Sparkle gems in while wet. Now, mine are better than the expensive ones because they not only have gems, they have glitter! And they only cost $1.

You could make them in every color!

Spring Birdies Have Glitter

This is the easiest, fastest project ever. Ever! I think we are all smiling at the things of spring right now. Make this!

You need:

a bird ( I found this painted wooden one at the craft store, isn't he cute?
white craft glue
medium flat paintbrush
Glitter Sample Pack
a stick from the yard or the park

Try this:

1. Brush a little glue where you want to accent with glitter. Sprinkle glitter over wet glue. Make your bird any colors!

2. Place stick on table or centerpiece. Perch the bird next to it.

Honestly, it took me longer to find stick than it did to glitter the bird.

If you added a few more birds, wouldn't this be the cutest table centerpiece?

Blog Hop: Scallop Box Purse

WooHoo, I am doing my first blog hop! The blog hop is sponsored by Sizzix and put together by Eileen Hull, who has also designed the ScoreBoard Die we all used for today's project. Check out her website to vote for your favorite project! There will be prizes for the winning designers.

In a blog hop, all of the participating designers use the same product. For this project we all used the Sizzix ScoreBoard Scalloped Box Die. In addition, we had a challenge for the project. It was to use something from the office supply store. Fun! I used garage sale stickers, check it out.

These dies are soon-to-be-released. So , while you are waiting, get some ideas from the blog hop, gather your materials and be ready.

You need:

the Scalloped Box and two flowers (mine is cut out of white matboard)
fine glitter: turquoise, pink, orange
2 tiny crystal gems
white craft glue
double sided tape
the garage sale stickers
a smallish flat paintbrush
about 10" of craft wire
assorted beads to go on the wire
2 eyelets and a setter
wire cutter, round nose pliers

Try this:

1. Set the eyelets in the top panel at the ends.

2. Press stickers wherever you want white dots.

3. Brush glue to cover box. Do not cover the dots completely. I tell you this from my experience and I could not find the dots after I glittered! Crazy! Sprinkle turquoise glitter over the box. Shake off the excess. Remove the dots. Carefully.

Glitter one flower pink and one orange. Let everything dry.

4. Use the double sided tape on the flaps to assemble the box. Use white glue to glue flowers to the front. Also glue the gems in the flower centers. Let dry again.

5. Around one jaw of the round nose pliers, form a couple coils in one end of the wire. String the wire through one eyelet, from the underside. String the beads on the wire. String the end of the wire through the other eyelet from the outside to the inside. Make a few coils, trim off the rest of the wire.

Cute purse! It would be so cute to use to deliver a party invitation. What other ideas do you have for its use??

Sea Shell Necklace

Today, we have a guest post by my friend Imaginina, direct from the beach. Nobody is quite as adventurous as Imaginina!

Hi from the beach everyone! Having a wonderful time, wish you were here. I am enjoying myself watching these crazy Floridians wearing winter coats on the beach. I hope you enjoy the necklace I made. If you are not at the beach like I am, you can cheat and buy a shell at the craft store.

I wanted to decorate the shell on both sides. Here is what I did on the inside:

Using some kind of decoupaging medium, coat the inside of the shell. I used gel medium. I love it.
See that my shell has a natural hole in the top? I picked it off the beach for that reason. You can drill one if you can't find one with a hole already.

Press some pieces of paper into the gel medium. I used some that kind of look like mermaid scales. Brush a coat of gel medium over the paper. Let it dry.

On the top of the shell, brush a coat of Crystal Sparkle...Sparkle 21. Pretty. Let it dry.

I added a paper word and a half pearl to the mermaid paper. I used gel medium to do that too.

Hang the dried shell from a chain or a cord. I wire wrapped a piece of wire as the hanger.

Looks great on the front and on the back!

If you have several tiny shells, you could do the same and add them to a charm bracelet. Everyone will be jealous!

Imaginina

Spring Flowers Cap

My friends Imaginina and her Boss made a trip to the beach this week. Before they left, I made them a glittery hat to take and wear. Since it is spring...in most places, anyway...I made giant flowers with gem centers using Sparkle 21 and Sparkle Gems. They really shine when the sun hits this hat. It is an easy pattern that you can freehand. That makes it fast! Try it,

You need:

a denim hat, I got this one at my local craft store for $2.99!

Sparkle 21": Lavender Sparkle, Pina Colada Sparkle (or choose whatever colors that are calling out to you)

8mm round Sparkle Gems: ambers

Try this:

1. Make a big squiggly circle of Sparkle 21. Make a smaller one inside. Make a filled in center.

2. While it is wet, set three gems into the center.

3. Keep doing that all over the cap, alternating colors. Let it dry overnight and take it out for a test spin!

Add a few leaves if you want to, more color never hurts me!

Earrings by Imaginina

My friend Imaginina stopped by the studio last week and I gave her the analogous color button challenge. She is very creative and has epic craft skills. I talked her into sharing her quick and easy project with us. Introducing....Imaginina!

Hello everyone, so glad to be here! This truly was a quick and easy pair of earrings. Even if you live under a rock and have never crafted before, you can handle this project. Give it a try.

You need:

2 triangle shaped buttons
Glitter Sample Pack
white craft glue
2 big jump rings (big enough to reach one of the button holes)
2 fishhook earring findings
chain nose pliers

Make the earrings:

1. Choose your three analogous colors of glitter...see Sparkle's tutorial on that.

2. Squeeze the glue right from the bottle to cover approximately the bottom third of one triangle button. Shake one color of glitter to cover wet glue.

3. Repeat to cover center of button with another of your colors of glitter.

4. Repeat to cover top third of button with last glitter color. Set aside to dry.

Keep in mind that this is a craft not an arithmetic problem, just estimate the thirds as you are applying glitter.

5. Repeat for the other button.

6. Assemble the earring. Using pliers, twist the jump ring open far enough to put an open end through a button hole. String a fishhook finding on the open jump ring. Close the jump ring, getting the ends to touch. Repeat with other earring.

You could make a bunch of these at one sitting. Also think about seasonal earrings and make them in Christmas colors or red/white/blue. Dust off your creativity and forget the analogous color thing, just go for it.

Button Art, a Color Lesson, and a Giveaway!

I made this button wall art today with a $1 frame from the dollar store and a bunch of stuff from my craft stash. Bet you can too!

Here is what you need:

frame, mine is 5"x5"
9 buttons, the same diameter
Glitter Sample Pack
white craft glue
scrapbook paper and acrylic paint to match

Try this:

1. Take the frame apart. Trace and cut out a piece of paper the same size as the frame backing. Glue the paper to the frame backing. Put aside the glass. We will think of something to do with it later.

Paint the frame. If you like the color it is when you buy it, skip this step and you are one step ahead of me.

2. Place the backing in the frame.

3. Lay out your buttons to see how they fit.

Here is your color lesson! Designers sometimes work with a color wheel to select colors. You have probably used one in art class sometime in your art career. You know the primary colors are red, blue and yellow. Check out where they are on the color wheel. The secondary colors are orange, purple and green. See where they are. Today, we are using analogous colors. Analogous colors are next to each other on the color wheel. On the wheel above, you see I am showing aqua, green, and lime as analogous colors. Any set of colors that are next to each other are analogous. The sample pack is laid out much like a color wheel. You can select three colors next to each other and they will be analogous. I have chosen fucshia, pink and purple for my button colors.

An analogous color palette will always work.

4. Using a flat brush, a craft stick, or your finger, cover the sides and top of a button with glue. I had this pair of skinny needlenose pliers on my table and they worked PERFECTLY to hold the button while I worked. Don't you love it when that happens?

5. Sprinkle glitter over the wet glue. Slip it off the pliers and set aside to dry.

6. Glitter your nine buttons. I did three of each of my analogous colors. Glue them onto the frame backing. Let them dry before standing up or hanging up.

Pretty cute for $1, if I do say so myself!!!

Glitter Daisies, Chapter 2

I liked yesterday's daisy so much it made me think we needed a home dec glitter daisy. So, I made three wall art daisies.

You need:

3 silk daisies (color of your choice, I bought this bush at the dollar store for $1)
3 surfaces (use small canvases or pieces of cardboard, I found some tiles at the dollar store)
black scrapbook paper
white craft glue
glitter to match your daisies

Try this:

1. Cut a piece of scrapbook paper the same size as the tile. Glue it on the front of the tile. Do this for each piece you are making.

This is why I liked the tiles for $1. They already had hangers on the back.

2. Cut the stems on the back of the daisies as close to the flower as you can.

3. Glitter the flower petals just like yesterday's project.

4. Make as many as you like. Three of them look nice hanging together.

So sparkly. So easy.

Grab a Pen-Take Notes!

Today is the first day of National Craft Month 2010. I spent an hour at the dollar store looking for inexpensive glitter crafting project ideas. You'll want to take notes...with this fabulous glitter daisy pen.

You need:

a pen (10 cents each at the dollar store)
a daisy (this bush was $1, you can't beat it!)
floral tape ($1 for two rolls!)
white craft glue
glitter, I used Pink Diamond Dust over the hot pink daisy
wire cutters

Try this:

1. Cut the stem of a daisy to about 1 1/2".

2. Remove the plug at the end of the pen. Stick the stem down inside the pen. Add some glue where the stem meets the pen.

3. Using a small brush or a craft stick or your finger, put some glue on a couple petals. Don't be stingy with the glue!

4. Sprinkle glitter on the wet glue. Repeat until all of the petals are glittered that you wish to be glittered.

5. Wrap floral tape from the daisy all the way down the pen. I stop short of the end because the floral tape gets sticky from holding it, when using the pen.

6. Be happy, it is so glittery!

Hoodie Give-Away!

Seems like it is cold and snowy nearly everyplace on the map this week. You need a sweatshirt! I feel so blessed to be able to sit inside my warm kitchen and watch the snow falling outside. But, very soon, I will be out there on snow removal detail. That requires at least one sweatshirt.

No problem, since I like snow! What is better than a quiet snowfall? So pretty, so white, so clean. Such snowman potential!

Special Serving Bowl

No patterns or special instructions needed. This is a gorgeous glittery bowl that you can make very easily.

Select 5-6 colors of Sparkle 21. Draw concentric circles of differing sizes and colors all over your bowl. Let it dry for a couple of days before you use it. It can be washed because Sparkle 21 is permanent on plastic. Don't put it in the dishwasher or soak it in a sink of water, but you can put it in water, wash it and take it out to dry.

This would make a great gift for anyone! Even yourself. Try it!

One of my favorite sets from the booth at CHA was the brown flower shirt with Flower Power jeans. I wished I had a live model for it, I just knew it would be the cutest on someone. Strawberry glitter on brown is very striking. Try it and see!

You need:

Sparkle 21: Gold Sparkle, Copper Sparkle, Strawberry Sparkle
Sparkle Gems: 8mm round amber
Chalk pencil
Patterns
Shirt painting board

Shirt Instructions:

1. Place shirt on board.

2. trace lines of flower pattern with chalk pencil.. Turn paper chalk side down on shirt. Rub back of paper to transfer chalk lines.

3. Draw on lines with Sparkle 21. Flower = Strawberry and Copper. Swirls = Gold.

4. Add gems at ends of lines or where desired.

Jeans Instructions:

1. Trace lines of pattern with chalk pencil. Turn paper chalk side down on pantleg. Rub back of paper to transfer chalk lines.

2. Trace lines of words with Gold Sparkle. Freehand flowers all around words.

Glittering at Girl's Night In

Tonight, Imaginina and Her Boss took me with them to a local Rescue Mission. Are you noticing a trend here? It is the second time this week that Imaginina and Her Boss invited me and my glitter to a fun night with a group of women. Fun! See Her Boss's blog for more details on the evening.

We visited with a group of girls from age 6 to 60. The glitter glue craft was a hit.

They each chose three colors of glitter glue for their peace signs, and used a high tech tool to blend the colors together. They were masters of the glitter glue tie dye look! And the high tech tool? A toothpick!

Very colorful. And sparkly!

Glitter Hoodie

I love this hoodie so much, I want it in every color. Sparkle 21 does an excellent job of dressing up a plain sweatshirt. The design is made with three small patterns placed randomly. Easy!

You need:

Dark green hoodie
Sparkle 21: Leaf Sparkle ( I used one whole bottle for what you see here. Get an extra if you want to cover the entire front)
Printed patterns
Chalk pencil

Try this:

1. Print patterns. Trace pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on sweatshirt. Rub back of paper to transfer lines to fabric. Randomly transfer three designs to cover one side of hoodie and one arm. Turn them in all directions. You can even flip them over so they face the other direction.

2. Draw over pattern lines with Leaf Sparkle. Add extra dots or lines if desired.

Imaginina, Her Boss, and the Real Moms

I went with my friends Imaginina and Her Boss tonight to their church. They glittered tote bags with the Moms in the Real Moms group. These Real Moms get together every other week and they have formed friendships and learned lots of things together.

These are the patterns that Imaginina and Her Boss brought for the Moms.

They had a choice of pattern, scripture verse, and colors of Sparkle 21.

They began by tracing their patterns with chalk pencil. Then they laid the patterns on the totes with the chalk side down to transfer the lines.

Then they covered the pattern lines with Sparkle 21.

They really did a good job. The tote bags were very nice! For more pics, go to Normal Girl's blog.

I love hanging out with Imaginina and Her Boss, they have fun friends.

Give a Hoot!

Here is a cute little hooty owl. Use him however you want. Glitter him once in the center of a shirt, glitter him all over a hoodie, glitter him on a notecard.... You decide.

You need:

Sparkle 21: Mermaid Sparkle, Copper Sparkle, Night Sparkle, and maybe a little Ocean Sparkle
Printed pattern
Chalk pencil
Straight pin

Try this:

1. Use copy machine to make pattern desired size. Trace pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on surface. Rub the back of the paper, transferring lines.

2. Color in design as shown in photo. I used three colors for his eyes: Ocean on the outside, Mermaid inside that, and a Night center. You could easily use two.

3. Stick straight pin in Copper dot, dragging it downward to make a teardrop shape feather.

4. Print hoot under owl. Let dry.

Anyone remember these commercials from the 70s? There were several. Owls always make me sing the song.

Today, Mod Girl says:

Sparkly Bridesmaid Gift

Last week, I saw some bridesmaid gifts that were t-shirts that said, "the bridesmaid". I went right home and painted a totebag. It needed more than the words, so it got a handful of posies.

You don't need a pattern for this. Just draw on your tote with a chalk pencil and then glitter over it with Sparkle 21. Make one for each bridesmaid and for the flower girl too. I guess the groomsmen would not be interested.

You could do the same on a t-shirt if that is more your style.

Doggie Treat Jar

Treats for Princess! Or Fluffy. Or Lassie. Or Fido. Make this jar in a few minutes.

You need:

Square glass jar
Sparkle 21: Mermaid Sparkle, Blue Heaven Sparkle
Sparkle gems: 8mm round holographic
Printed pattern
Tape

Try this:

1. Adjust size of pattern to fit the side of the jar. Tape it inside.

2. Draw over the pattern lines of the tiara with Blue Heaven. Set gems at the tips and inside each spiral.

3. Use Mermaid to print the letters under the tiara.

4. Fill with Rover's favorite treats.

If you don't have a dog, then you can be the Princess. Put your favorite treats in the jar. :)

Bluebird of Glittery Happiness

Try this:

1. Put the shirt on one board. Pin the leg of the jeans to the other board.

2. Size the pattern as fits your shirt and jeans.

3. Trace the pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on garment. Rub the back of the paper to transfer lines to fabric.

4. Use Sparkle 21 to cover the pattern lines: Copper vines, Blue Suede bird with Vintage feathers, Vintage flowers on branches.

5. To make the flowers, squeeze out dots of glitter. Place a straight pin in the center of the dot, and draw toward the stem, making a teardrop shape.

6. Let dry at least 24 hours.

Use the photo for your pattern placement, or design your own.

A Sparkling Booth

How nice is this? In the booth, they made me a wall that invites everyone to join us on this blog. I have handed out so many business cards to fellow glitter lovers.

Some of the projects that are posted on the blog, I am sure you have seen them. Here they are displayed in the booth. These are some of the Mod Girl projects from last week.

There is a really terrific demonstrator working in the booth, showing guests how to use Sparkle 21. I get to spend my time walking around the show floor. There is a lot of glitter and bling in the show this year. Really pretty, but not as gorgeous as Sparkle 21!

Give Peace a Glittery Chance

Today was kid's craft day. I have to report that every kid we had at the table was so cute, very well behaved, super smart, and loved to craft. Attention Mothers! Crafting must do something great for kids! It is all true. Every child we played with today was all of the above.

We threw glitter glue, beads and gems onto the center of the table and the creating began.

The Lone Bird Tote

I really like simple little birds as a design element right now, and since yesterday's tweeters turned out cute, I kept the theme going today. This is a very pretty tote bag, even without the decorating. Adding Sparkle 21 birds and branches gives it a one-up on everyone else's tote bag.

I did the pattern with just one color of Sparkle 21, Night Sparkle. But, if you wish for more color, use red, copper, green, whatever you like.

You need:

Patterned totebag
Sparkle 21: Night Sparkle
Printed pattern
Dark chalk pencil
Fabric glue
5/8” wide black ribbon with white dots (enough to fit the height of your bag twice)

Try this:

1. Trace pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on bag. Rub back of paper to transfer lines.

2. Cover pattern lines on bag with thick lines of Night Sparkle. Let dry.

3. Glue ribbon on either side of design on totebag.

Glitter Storefront

Here I am in Anaheim, ready for the Craft Supershow and the CHA Show. I had a little free time today and ended up at Downtown Disney. This storefront caught my eye. It was sparking even though it was raining. Plus, I really liked the swirly design. I am thinking about using it as inspiration for a pattern.

When I got up close, I noticed that the design was made of square mirrors, and it looked like giant size glitter. And the jewelry inside was pretty interesting too.

Three Little Glitter Birds

These little birds are so easy to make that you don't even need a pattern. I put them on a long sleeve onesie for a baby, but they would be cute so many other places. How about on an adult sleeve? Down a pantleg? The front of a hoodie? On a notebook? You can make them any size. Make them smaller and put them on a hat, or on shoes. Any Nature Girl will love these little birdies.

You need:

Black onesie (or any surface)
Sparkle 21: Blue Suede Sparkle, Leaf Sparkle, Night Sparkle
Straight pin
Chalk pencil
something round to trace (I used a glue bottle) This is optional. Feel free to freehand a half circle.

Try this:

1. Use chalk pencil to draw three half circles on shirt.

2. Outline with Blue Suede.

3. Add Night Sparkle legs. For an eye, add a Leaf Sparkle dot with a smaller Night Sparkle dot on top of it.

4. Make feathers by making a dot of Blue Suede, place a straight pin in the center, drag out to make a teardrop shape.

5. Print tweet, chirp, peep under the birds.

Very tweet.

Printed pattern
Chalk pencil

Try this:

1. Trace pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on tote. Rub back of paper to transfer lines to fabric.

2. Draw over lines of letters as shown. Add dots or lines for background in each letter. Let dry.
This would be cute on the back of a hoodie.

Cupcake Apron

If you can't eat a cupcake everytime you bake, you can wear one! I painted this strawberry cupcake on an apron and matching hot pads. Since it is a simple line art pattern, it takes on a few minutes to complete.

Cupcakes in lemon (yellow) and vanilla (white) are cute, even without sprinkles.

You need:

Apron
Hot pads
Sparkle 21: Blue Heaven Sparkle, Limeade Sparkle (or colors that match your apron), Pink Sparkle, Strawberry Sparkle, Pina Colada Sparkle. Crystal Sparkle, and some extra colors if you want to add sparkles
Printed pattern
Chalk pencil

Try this:

1. Print pattern in sizes needed to fit your apron and hot pads. Draw over lines of pattern with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on fabric. Rub back of paper to transfer lines.

2. Color in cupcake as desired. Let dry.

3. Add words as desired.

4. Add sprinkles of any colors. Let dry.

Change colors to make your cupcakes in any flavor you like.

Peace, Love, Togetherness, and Glitter

These tiny canvases have been on my work table calling me to do something with them. I could not decide until a friend sent me the tiny easels. And then I knew. Peace, Love, and Togetherness. When I combined those themes with rick rack, I had 1972 flashbacks! They are easy to make.

You need:

Sparkle 21: Very Berry Sparkle, Blue Suede Sparkle, Pina Colade Sparkle, Limeade Sparkle
Three 3” square canvases
Three small wooden easels
Black acrylic paint
Small flat paintbrush
Printed designs
tracing paper
Chalk pencil
1 yard lime green small rick rack
white craft glue

Try this:

1. Paint canvases and easels black. Let dry.

2. Print designs. Lay tracing paper over them and trace with pencil. Trace pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on canvas. Rub back of paper to transfer lines. Remember to trace the backside of the earth pattern to make the continents face the right direction.

If you are using a different size canvas, use a copy machine to make the patterns the right size.

3. Fill in designs on canvases with Sparkle 21, as desired. Let dry.

4. Glue rick rack around outside edge of each canvas.

5. Outline front surfaces of easel with desired color of Sparkle 21.

Pretty Paisleys

Today, I am taking Mod to a quieter level. Oh, paisleys are still quite retro, but I made these in more subdued tones for those of you who do not want to scream, "I loved the 70s!"

This paisley project is on a cardigan sweater, but as usual, select the garment that suites you best.

You need:

Sparkle 21: Gold Sparkle, Silver Sparkle, Night Sparkle
Black cardigan sweater
Printed pattern
Chalk pencil
Straight pin

Try this:

1. Print pattern. Draw over pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on cardigan. Rub back of paper to transfer pattern lines. Transfer as many paisleys as desired.

2. Use Sparkle 21 to cover pattern lines and dots on sweater.

3. To make leaves inside paisley, place straight pin in center of dot and drag outward to form a point.

4. Add big dots outside of paisleys as desired.

Add a little more color if you like it, otherwise, these paisleys have an elegant (but still mod) look.

Flower Power Tote Box

You need:

Sparkle 21: Very Berry Sparkle, Blue Suede Sparkle, Pina Colada Sparkle, Vintage Sparkle
Large hard sided tote (Mine is lime green)
Flower Power Pattern
Chalk pencil
Flower trim: enough to go around four sides of tote
White craft glue
toothpick

Try this:

1. Glue trim around top of tote.

2. Print pattern. Draw over pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on tote. Rub back of paper to transfer chalk lines. Transfer as desired.

3. Fill in flower petals with colors of choosing, or follow the photo.

4. Change the flower centers: peace sign, smiley face, tie dye, solid.

Draw a smiley face with Blue Suede. Fill in the circle with Pina Colada.

Fill in the peace sign with Blue Suede. Leave the inside sections blank, the tote color will show.

Outline the flower center with a thick line of Very Berry. Inside that make a thick line of Pina Colada. Inside that, make a small circle of Vintage. use toothpick to blend the colors together. Go HERE to watch a video of the tie dye technique.

5. In the spaces between flowers, print words: peace, love, joy...or any other words of your choosing.

Flower Power T-Shirt

This is the same flower power pattern that I used on the tote. Since Sparkle 21 is washable on fabric, I could not resist putting one on a toddler size t-shirt. Perfect for a baby hippie!

The pattern has a peace sign in the center of the flower. But, I used the tie dye technique instead for this flower center. You, of course could do either. Put the flower power flower on a shirt of any size to share the love.

You need:

Pink t-shirt
Printed pattern
Sparkle 21: Pina Colada Sparkle, Very Berry Sparkle, Blue Suede Sparkle
Toothpick
Chalk pencil
toothpick

Try this:

1. Print out flower power pattern. Use copy machine to make it the right size for the shirt you have selected. Trace the pattern lines with chalk pencil. Turn chalk side down on shirt. Rub the back of the paper to transfer the pattern lines to the fabric.

2. Outline the center of the flower with a thick line of Pina Colada. Inside that line, make a thick line of Blue Suede. Inside that, make a smaller circle of Very Berry. These lines should be thick, but not touching each other.

3. Use the toothpick to blend the lines of color together. Comb back and forth between lines, blending.

My good friend Imaginina stopped by and made us a video showing the tie dye technique. Take a look:

4. Fill in the flower petals with Very Berry.

5. Under the flower, print: love. Let dry completely.

Pink Daisies Dress

Glittery pink daisies are quite groovy on this black dress. Actually, any color daisies would look nice because Sparkle 21 has such great color. You can paint these daisies on any garment of your choice.
On this cute sundress, I covered the bodice and started a garden on the hem.

You need:

black dress
Sparkle 21: Pink Sparkle, Very Berry Sparkle, Leaf Sparkle
Sparkle Gems: 8mm round pink mix
toothpick
printed pattern
chalk pencil
shirt painting board

pattern: print desired size

Try this:

1. Trace lines of daisy pattern with chalk pencil. Turn pencil side down on dress. Rub back of paper to transfer lines to fabric.

2. For each petal: Outline and fill in the base of the petal with Very Berry Sparkle. Outline and sort-of fill in the tip of the petal with Pink Sparkle.

3. Use the toothpick to comb back and forth through the Sparkle 21, blending the colors.

4. When all petals are complete, set a gem in the center.

5. To grow a garden at the hem: paint three daisies on the skirt. Using Leaf Sparkle, draw a straight line from each flower to the hem. Add leaves as desired.

How can you change the pattern to personalize it? Grow a garden of smaller daisies. Make multi color daisies. Use an amber gem for the centers. What else can you think of?

One really tall daisy up the leg of a pair of jeans would be far out!
